The ground hosted its first ODI back in 1978 when Pakistan defeated England by 36 runs. It was completely renovated in preparation for the ICC Cricket World Cup 1996 and is regarded as one of the finest stadiums in Pakistan. The biggest match ever to take place on the ground was when Sri Lanka overcame Australia by seven wickets in the final of the ICC Cricket World Cup. |

West Indies defeated Pakistan in the first ever ODI match to be played at the ground when it snatched a dramatic last ball victory in 1980. The ground was also a venue for the ICC Cricket World Cup 1996, with the West Indies beating South Africa by 19 runs in the final. |
